Backlash is the second and final studio album by British/American rock supergroup Bad English, released in 1991.

The album peaked at No. 72 on the Billboard 200.

Entertainment Weekly wrote that "taken together, the album — with its unceasing references to rain and rivers — inevitably bogs down, but heard one at a time over the FM in the Ford, even its platitudes, given [John] Waite’s delivery, add up to a hack-rock miracle or two." The Rolling Stone Album Guide deemed Backlash "more spirited" than the debut.

Bad English is the debut studio album by British/American glam metal supergroup Bad English. It was released in on June 26, 1989.

The album was a massive success, especially because of the No. 1 single "When I See You Smile". That single was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America while the album was certified platinum. Aside from that song, the album had two other top 40 hits, "Price of Love" and "Possession", which peaked at No. 5 and No. 21, respectively.

The album received generally positive reviews.

RPM reviewer David Spodek called it "an LP full of enough hard driving rock and roll and power chords to please any AOR MD" and named "Forget Me Not" as the best cut. Rock Hard gave an extremely positive review, and called it the "best AOR album of the past six months".

AllMusic's Dan Heilman gave the album four stars, saying, "[A]mid some tailor-made power ballads lurks some decent hard rock." LouderSound writer Dave Everley gave the album four stars, explaining the rating with "Bad English marked the end of an era, but what a last hurrah it was".

Nonetheless, in 2016, "When I See You Smile" was ranked by Louder Sound as the 10th worst power ballad ever written.

Musician reviewer J. D. Considine wrote simply: "Grammar is the least of their problems."

"Best of What I Got" is featured during the credits to the 1989 film Tango & Cash.

Bad English is the self-titled platinum-selling debut album by American rock supergroup Bad English, released in 1989.

The band scored two huge hits on the Billboard charts including the No. 1 hit "When I See You Smile" and No. 5 hit "Price of Love". In all, five singles were officially released from the album, all charting on the Hot 100.

First single "Forget Me Not" was a major hit at rock radio, spending two weeks at No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, but it narrowly failed to hit the pop Top 40. The second single was the Diane Warren-penned power ballad "When I See You Smile", which was a massive multiformat hit, spending two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, two weeks in the top 10 at rock radio, and getting significant and sustained play at Adult Contemporary radio. But "When I See You Smile" lingered in the pop Top 40 and was still climbing the Adult Contemporary charts, and close to being certified Gold, long after the song had peaked at rock radio. When the decision was made to release a second consecutive power ballad as the album's third single ("Price of Love"), the band released the stomper "Best of What I Got" as a promo to U.S. rock radio, hoping to maintain interest and credibility with the rock audience for their live headlining tour. The plan worked, as "Price of Love" hit the pop top five but did not receive enough rock radio airplay to hit the 40-place Rock Tracks chart, while "Best of What I Got" surged to No. 9 there (the band's second-highest showing on that chart), and the band was invited to join the Whitesnake tour beginning in the spring for a second jaunt around the U.S.

"Best of What I Got" also featured during the credits to the 1989 movie Tango & Cash.

"Heaven is a 4 Letter Word" was released at the dawn of the 1990s as the next single, and this track narrowly missed the top 10 on the Mainstream Rock Charts. The final single released, "Possession" nearly cracked the top 20 on the Pop charts.

A five-video collection was released, containing the music videos for "Best of What I Got", "Heaven Is a 4 Letter Word", "Forget Me Not", "When I See You Smile", and "Price of Love".
